Methodologies Collective 2021). Selbstsorge geht Hand in Hand mit der Sorge um andere und die Welt, in der wir leben. Wir finden, es ist Zeit für eine Pause, in der wir auf die Bedingungen, unter denen unsere Forschungen stattfindet, schauen. </span></p>

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">In Gesprächen mit Kolleg*innen und Freund*innen, in Mailverteilern, auf Konferenzen und in Mittagspausen nehmen wir wahr, dass sich die strukturelle Be- und Überlastung im wissenschaftlichen
Betrieb zuspitzt. Das führt dazu, dass vieles wegfällt: Diskussionen, die wir eigentlich führen sollten; Räume für Austausch, die wir gerne pflegen möchten; Veranstaltungen, die wir eigentlich organisieren würden; Schreibgruppen, die nicht notwendigerweise
zur nächsten Publikation führen; Lesekreise, die über das eigene Forschungsfeld hinausgehen; Themen, die dringend in Lehrveranstaltungen eingebettet werden sollten; Abendveranstaltungen und Kolloquien, für die wir einfach zu erschöpft sind; Mentoring, von
dem wir wissen, dass es eigentlich gebraucht wird. Im (Arbeits)Alltag rutscht all das schnell ganz ans Ende unserer To-Do Listen. Der Mut, die Kreativität, Energie und Fürsorge, die kritisch-feministische Forschung in einer patriarchalen Welt tagtäglich fordern,
stehen zunehmend unter Überbeanspruchung. <span style="color:rgb(0,120,212)"> </span></span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt; line-height:18.4px; font-size:medium; font-family:Aptos,sans-serif">
<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">Mit dieser Ausgabe der FemGeo-Rundmail knüpfen wird dabei an aktuelle Forschung an, die zeigt wie (vergeschlechtlichte) Machtverhältnisse<span style="color:rgb(0,120,212)"> </span>in Arbeitskontexten
und Lehre<span style="color:rgb(0,120,212)"> </span>(re)produziert werden (Bruckner et al., 2025; Korica, 2022), wie Anti-Feminismus zur Bedrohung von kritischen Lehrveranstaltungen wird (Zill et al., 2024), aber auch wie Sorgearbeit in die Universität eingebracht
und mitgedacht werden kann (Manzi et al., 2024) und welche Rolle Freund*innenschaften spielen (Hall, 2025). Diese Beschäftigungen machen Mut! Sie machen die Herausforderungen, die wir alltäglich spüren, sichtbar und eröffnen so auch Handlungsspielräume. Denn:
Wir brauchen feministische Geographien, ihre Themensetzungen und Blickwinkel und vor allem das solidarische Zusammenstehen. </span></p>

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">Dabei wollen wir Raum öffnen für das, was gerade nicht funktioniert. Uns interessiert aber auch was gut läuft, Freude und Antrieb bringt. Quasi: Von der Bestandsaufnahme zur Systemkritik und
zu all dem Großen und Kleinen dazwischen, denn: „Batteries can’t recharge on their own. The subversion and rebirth of the academy takes everything we’ve got and recuperation is necessary, but the temporary home we make to fend off the spikes of the world’s
hostility is not one of escapism. It is a comforting space for nursing wounds, soothing aches, building each other up, gaining strength to lean into the trouble rather than away from it“ (Smyth et al. 2020: 17).<s> </s> </span></p>

<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">Not to engage in self-referential debates or navel-gazing. But, inspired by the principles of feminist and caring research, to reflect on our own positionality, vulnerability, and
capacities (Branelly & Barnes 2020; The Critical Methodologies Collective 2021). Self-care goes hand in hand with caring for others and for the world in which we live. We believe it’s time for a pause to consider the conditions under which our research takes
place.</span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal" style="margin:12pt 0cm; line-height:18.4px; font-size:12pt; font-family:Aptos,sans-serif; border:medium; padding:0cm">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">In conversations with colleagues and friends, on mailing lists, at conferences, and during lunch breaks, we notice that the structural pressure and overload within academia are intensifying.
This results in many things falling by the wayside: discussions we should be having; spaces for exchange we would like to keep; events we would love to organise; writing groups that don’t necessarily have to lead to the next publication; reading groups that
go beyond our own research fields; topics that urgently need to be embedded in our teaching; evening events and colloquia we are simply too exhausted to attend; mentoring we know is truly needed. In our (working) everyday lives, all these things quickly slip
to the bottom of our to-do lists. In short, the courage, creativity, energy, and care that critical feminist research needs every day in a patriarchal world are increasingly stretched to their limits.</span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal" style="margin:12pt 0cm; line-height:18.4px; font-size:12pt; font-family:Aptos,sans-serif; border:medium; padding:0cm">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">With this FemGeo Rundmail, we wish to build on current research that engages with how (gendered) power relations are (re)produced in academic employment and teaching (Bruckner et
al., 2025; Korica, 2022), how anti-feminism poses a threat to critical teaching (Zill et al., 2024), but also how care work can be brought into and integrated within the university (Manzi et al., 2024) and the meaning of friendship in academia (Hall, 2025).
These voices give us courage! They make daily challenges visible, while also opening up spaces for action. We need feminist geographies — the topics, perspectives, and, above all, the solidarity.</span></p>

<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif,serif,EmojiFont">So, we want to talk about what is dragging us down at the moment. However, we are also interested in what is going well, what brings us joy and motivation. In other words: from an
inventory to systemic critique, and everything in between, because, as Smyth et al. (2020: 17) remind us, “batteries can’t recharge on their own. The subversion and rebirth of the academy takes everything we’ve got and recuperation is necessary, but the temporary
home we make to fend off the spikes of the world’s hostility is not one of escapism. It is a comforting space for nursing wounds, soothing aches, building each other up, gaining strength to lean into the trouble rather than away from it.”</span></p>
