The Interdisciplinary Centre for Global South Studies and the Center<br/>
for Gender and Diversity Research of the University of Tübingen, in<br/>
partnership with UFF, UNAM, UCAD, and the University of Pretoria,<br/>
invites scholars, activists, and artists to present their works at the<br/>
International Forum 2022 - Decolonial Perspectives on Gender,<br/>
Sexuality, and Patriarchy: Art, Activism, and Academia.<br/>
<br/>
While many attempts have been made, in the Global South, to<br/>
deconstruct the patriarchy, such attempts can still be controversial<br/>
inside academia. As Lélia Gonzales (1981) states: “We are tired of<br/>
knowing that there is no mention of an important social input from<br/>
popular classes, women, indigenous and black people in our historical<br/>
and cultural formation, in education nor the books we study from.” As<br/>
an overarching system of practices, patriarchy ensures the<br/>
(re)production of normatively gendered subjectivities and gendered<br/>
identities, including sexuality. It also intersects with political<br/>
markers such as race, ethnicity, (social) class, religion, and<br/>
language (to name a few) to keep minority groups (marginal bodies) in<br/>
asubordinate condition. Hence, anti-patriarchal, anti-colonial, and<br/>
anti-capitalist approaches are necessary when addressing these issues<br/>
– in both practical/political and theoretical/academic contexts.<br/>
<br/>
This international forum aims to examine the struggle for inclusion<br/>
within countries of the 'Global South'. We are interested in<br/>
decolonial mapping to understand the complex relationships between<br/>
regimes of power, temporalities, bodies, gender, andviolence. In this<br/>
sense, a decolonial perspective becomes a point of departure and help.<br/>
It helps the long reach of colonial pasts that still continues to<br/>
haunt (our) lives: underscoring the cycles and genealogies of violence<br/>
and understanding how bodies are (de)valued and categorized through<br/>
time and history.<br/>

This international forum focuses on bringing together different voices<br/>
and perspectives in the fields of art, academia, and activism and on<br/>
putting them into dialogue with each other. We intend to engage with<br/>
decolonial and feminist approaches as forms of resistance to the power<br/>
structure of gender/sexuality, race/ethnicity, and social/economic<br/>
class.<br/>
<br/>
This forum invites panel proposals from different fields that address<br/>
(but are in no way limited to) the following questions:<br/>
What strategies have been appropriated by underprivileged classes,<br/>
women, indigenous and black people, and LGBTQI+ in the ‚Global South‘<br/>
as empowerment tools?<br/>
How can self-care strategies and a foregrounding of wellbeing be used<br/>
as forms of resistance?<br/>
Which actions create alternatives contributing to egalitarian and<br/>
politically equal environments/spaces?<br/>
How do marginalized bodies revolt against hegemonic narratives?<br/>
In what ways can these actions enhance other forms of knowledge that<br/>
are NOT westernized, colonial, hegemonic, and normative?<br/>
How do temporalities play in the issue of intersectionality struggle<br/>
against hegemonical power?<br/>

We invite scholars, activists, and artists to submit their proposals<br/>
which should not exceed 500 words. Potential proposals (in English,<br/>
Spanish or French) may be submitted as scholarly abstracts or artistic<br/>
or performative concepts.<br/>
