für diejenigen unter euch, die auf der RGS-IBG in London sind: herzliche Einladung zu unserer Abendveranstaltung am Mittwoch, 2. September, im Ondaatje Theatre. Das Plakat hängt an.

„Nuclear Latitudes: Positions on Landscape, Memory and the Invisible“ versammelt Künstler:innen und Forschende, die mit Sound, Film, Fotografie, Performance und kuratorischer Praxis zu nuklearen Landschaften arbeiten. Der Abend besteht aus Lectures, Screenings und Live-Sound-Performance, gefolgt von einer moderierten Diskussion.

Warum das auch für feministische Geograph:innen interessant sein könnte: das Panel versteht sich als Versuch, den klassischen Kanon wissenschaftlicher Repräsentation zu erweitern. Durch künstlerische Zugänge, affektive Geographien, Sound als Methode und embodied testimony in Form von Performance und Ausstellungspraxis. Es geht darum, Wissensformen sichtbar zu machen, die in dominanten Narrativen unsichtbar bleiben: verkörperte Erfahrungen, slow violence, und die gelebten Realitäten von communities in nuklearen Landschaften.

Das Panel wird organisiert und moderiert von Jay Needham (Southern Illinois University Carbondale), Louise K. Wilson (University of Leeds) und mir, Frederike Lange (Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum). Es sprechen und performen außerdem Gair Dunlop (University of Dundee), Etsuko Ichikawa (Independent Researcher) und Ken Hollings (Royal College of Arts, London).

Dear all,

for those of you attending the RGS-IBG in London: a warm invitation to our evening event on Wednesday, 2 September, at the Ondaatje Theatre. Poster attached.

Nuclear Latitudes: Positions on Landscape, Memory and the Invisible brings together artists and researchers working with sound, film, photography, performance, and curatorial practice in nuclear landscapes. The evening will feature lectures, screenings and live sound-based performance, followed by a moderated discussion.

Why this might be of interest to feminist geographers: the panel seeks to expand the established canon of scientific representation – through artistic approaches, affective geographies, sound as method, and embodied testimony in the form of performance and exhibition-making. It aims to make visible forms of knowledge that dominant narratives render invisible: embodied experiences, slow violence, and the lived realities of communities in nuclear landscapes.

The panel is organised and moderated by Jay Needham (Southern Illinois University Carbondale), Louise K. Wilson (University of Leeds), and Frederike Lange (Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum). Contributing artists and speakers include Gair Dunlop (University of Dundee), Etsuko Ichikawa (Independent Researcher), and Ken Hollings (Royal College of Arts, London).
