Dear Feminist Geographers,

 

I am circulating a call for abstracts/papers for a relatively new journal, Gender and Justice, for a special issue on 'Creative Feminist Methodologies'. Abstracts are due 1 June 2026, with final papers 4 January 2027. Following this we will have a regular journal section on Creative Methodologies. Details below and attached.

Special Issue Call for Papers – Creative Feminist Methodologies

How do we promote marginalised voices within the context of increased criminalisation of difference, divergence and resistance? How do we investigate injustice while books are banned, education censored and academic language circumscribed? How do we document divergent
experiences and knowledges when political and legal institutions are used to remove access to rights? How do we envisage new pathways to social justice in the face of rapidly increasing conservative attitudes about sex, gender and sexuality amongst young men, and continually
unfolding revelations of immense, organised networks dedicated to sexual exploitation, with users and supporters including powerful political figures?

These times call for feminist innovations, queer interventions, decolonial action in the design, practice and communication of justice research. Now, more than ever, we need creative methods and methodologies that can promote marginalised voices and experience, investigate systemically obscured injustice and communicate findings beyond the academic sphere. Creative methodologies have the potential to unsettle dominant forms of knowledge production, enable new opportunities for more ethically generated research, reveal complexity, promote marginalised experiences, voices and ways of understanding, and reach more extensive audiences.

The Law, Gender and Sexuality (LEX) research network-affiliated journal, Gender and Justice is pleased to invite submissions for a special issue dedicated to Creative Feminist Methodologies. The journal aims to showcase innovative contributions that are theoretically-driven and/or empirically-grounded approaches to various forms of gender inequality, injustice and exclusion which influence and shape individuals' lives across diverse and global contexts. For this special issue (and future issues) we are seeking submissions that execute, perform or theorise creative methods in generating, interpreting and sharing knowledges concerning the intersection of gender and justice. Methods may include, but are not limited to arts-based participation, analysis or findings communication (visual performance, theatre, dance, audio, multi-media); digital research (using social media, video games, apps and smart devices); storytelling and creative writing; graphic novelisation; photo-elicited data gathering; embodied ethnographic practices and analysis. We also encourage submissions using existing methods in creative ways, including new angles or combining traditional, established methods with innovation. Gender and Justice looks towards a more hopeful future, focused on generating critical debates to consider what a feminist conception of justice can mean in terms of society, and in terms of developing and enriching critical feminist/gender/queer and social theory.


Gender and Justice champions world-leading research from authors in–but not limited to–the following disciplines:
· Sociology
· Criminology
· Socio-legal studies
· Gender studies,
· Queer studies,
· Economics,
· Human geography,
· Ethnography and
· Anthropology.

Submissions from scholars and practitioners in the humanities and arts are also welcome!
