’Our stories, our voices’: A feminist toolkit for authorship in the data
peripheries

Ayona Datta, London

This lecture will present a feminist toolkit for gendered authorship that
develops a range of adaptable resources for marginal citizens to occupy the
digital-analogue margins. Drawing upon a series of participatory, visual and
aural tools used by young millennial women living in Delhi’s urban
peripheries, the toolkit will highlight new forms of literary ‘innovation’
through the expression of anger, joy, freedom and despair in the data
peripheries of the city. The lecture will argue that self-authorship in the
toolkit can transform the data peripheries by underlining the affective and
resistant potential of data, thus profoundly changing the social nature of
digital space and its potential to shape feminist urban futures.
